Week 8: The vocabulary as an importance element in the learning process


In my personal opinion, this article shows us how importance is to make students learn new vocabulary in different ways using the technology at the time to look for a specific definition. In fact, teachers can give students tasks about reading with new words and make the look for their definitions in different dictionaries found on the website. Moreover, something that really call my attention was that teachers could make students write about any topics and then show to rest of the class the words misspellings that their classmates have made, and ask them think why the words do not fit it in the contexts of their writings, also to look for the definitions of those words that have been written by them. 
However, before giving to the students the links of the websites of dictionaries that they can use to look for the definitions, teachers are required to investigate if these dictionaries are appropriate for students that are learning a new language or if they are for native speakers.

On the other hand, the other reading which was focused on the reading for ESL/FSL  was really interested too because it was related with learning new vocabulary using interesting readings and making students to learn new vocabulary through readings task which in my opinion  might be a good idea to do with our students because we might make them to increase  a hundred of word that they might be able to use in their speeches in the  future.

  1. Nice insight, Violet. I agree with your ideas. I really believe that using technological aids trigger the improvement of vocabulary acquisition and reading proficiency. It is an interactive way in which students pass through the stages of vocabulary learning such as deduction, consolidation and long-term retention. Something meaningful is that applying reading activities students are exposed to different context in which they are willing to analyze and identify the meaning of new words by themselves or by using dictionaries. In addition, I love the activity in which teachers ask students to look for three words in a general-use dictionary and in a learner-use dictionary because that really help them to compare and identify what type of resource is specifically designed for them, and that provide more useful information about the words.

  2. Hello! This article as you said Violeta mentioned the importance of teach new vocabulary to the students, the ways that teachers can use to teach it. The technology is the way to implement the vocabulary skill. Moreover, it is meaningful for students because they learn new vocabulary and they also improve their speaking. Something important that you said is teachers can make learners write about any topic then, show the misspellings that they made and ask them what it changes. It is important to changeling to students.
    Also, provide to students a task using the technology is a good idea because they feel interested in learning new words.
